Abstract:

Background & Objective: Antibiotic resistance due to the widespread use of antibiotics is one of the major causes of failure in antibiotic treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the rates of antibiotic resistance among Escherichia coli isolates from Fasa Vali-e-Asr Hospital patients.   Materials & Methods : In total, 234 isolates of Escherichia coli strains, obtained from inpatients and outpatients, were studied. The identity of the isolated strains was confirmed by bacteriologic methods. T he drug sensitivity definition test to 17 antibiotics was done via the disk diffusion antibiogram method. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the resistant isolates to Ciprofloxacin and Imipenem was measured using the s erial dilution method according to the CLSI standards.   Results : The resistance rates of the isolates to Ciprofloxacin and Imipenem by disk diffusion antibiogram method were 22.65% and 11.11% and by serial dilution method were 19.66 % and 9.4% of all the isolates, respectively.   Conclusion: These results show higher resistance of Escherichia coli to Ciprofloxacin and Imipenem as compared to the results in previous studies. Further investigation will shed light on how to more effectively battle antibiotic resistance of virulent microorganisms.

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Isolated Gram-Negative Bacteria from Urine Culture of Hospitalized patients in Different Wards of Vali-Asr Hospital in Fasa During the Years 2012 and 2013

Background & Objective: Urinary tract infection is one of the most common bacterial infections in humans and its appropriate treatment is extremely important. Occurrence of antibiotic resistance in bacterial pathogen is a worldwide problem. The evaluation of bacterial susceptibility pattern and recognizing the prevalent resistances can be helpful for appropriate treatment and management....

Determination of antibiotic resistance pattern in Escherichia coli strains isolated from animal faeces in a farm house

The present study aimed to evaluate the antibiotic resistance pattern of Escherichia coli strains isolatedfrom animals to ascertain the levels of antibiotic resistance pervasiveness. A total of 28 E. coli strains wereisolated from faecal samples and the antibiotic resistance pattern of E. coli strains was determined by meansof disc diffusion assay. The resistance pattern determined for all stra...

Molecular Epidemiology of ESBL Genes and Multi-Drug Resistance in Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains Isolated from Adults in Iran

Resistance to oxyimino cephalosporins antibiotics in Enterobacteriaceae is primarily done by the extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs). Clear identification of risk factors for ESBL-producing infections is necessary. Therefore, efficient strategies can be developed to decrease outbreak of these infections. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial susceptibility and ESBLs patter...

Frequency and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) Strains Isolated from Children Aged Less Than 10 Years

ABSTRACT              Background and Objectives: Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) pathotypes are important causes of diarrhea among children in developing countries. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and antibiotic resistance pattern of DEC pathotypes in children aged less than 10 years.   &nbs...

Molecular Monitoring of Fosfomycin Resistance in Escherichia coli Strains Isolated from Patients with Urinary Catheters in north-east of Iran

Introduction: Urinary tract infection is a common nosocomial infection that has recently become difficult to treat because of the increased emergence of multi-drug resistant strains. This study aims to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration, and molecular pattern of resistance to fosfomycin in Escherichia coli isolates originated from patients hospitalized with urinary tract infection i...
